On The Edge 2016 has ended! We’ve passed out diplomas, said our goodbyes, students have gone home, and staff members have had their final debrief.
We began week five with the final Men and Women of the Bible class on Sunday night. The guy counselors each encouraged the girl students with scripture. One of the highlights was from men’s counselor Jordan Montano who exhorted us by saying “You need to stop looking for prince charming and start looking to the Prince of Peace.”
Each week students have participated in Christian Community Service or CCS. Tuesday was the final CCS of the summer and we had a great opportunity to serve the retirement community located behind campus. It’s such a blessing for the elderly residents to have help with various housekeeping needs and yard work. Many of these residents are not able to leave their homes, so they were very excited to have Edge students spend some time with them.
Thursday was the final and most exciting ICE, a fashion show called Red Carpet Ready. Each dorm had a material they were supposed to construct their outfits out of, including towels, cardboard, trash bags, and bed sheets. Girl’s dorm 303 won the swag bag.
One of the sweetest times at the end of Edge is baptisms. Each student has an opportunity to publicly declare the work the Lord has done in them and to pray with the Edge leadership. After baptisms we had a time of worship that we like to call ‘all night of worship’ but is actually from about 9 to 1am. This is such a great time for students and staff to come together and worship one final time before everyone departs.
On Saturday we had graduation, which is so bittersweet. Everyone is excited to get home but so sad that Edge seems to have gone so quickly. After diplomas are passed out, we all gather for snacks, fellowship and final goodbyes.
This summer was amazing because we saw our amazing God move mightily in the staff and students. We’re excited for what the Lord will do in Edge 2017!
